Pd-catalyzed oxidative Heck reactions of coumarins were developed via simultaneous C-H functionalization at the C3 position of coumarins under aerobic conditions.

Only olefination occurred for acrylates, and the butadiene product can be further cyclized under palladium-catalyzed aerobic conditions. The coupling with N,N-dimethylacrylamide followed a cyclization pathway.
